The first part of the Structures-Project at the same time provided the theme for
CTM.09 – the 10th edition of the festival. With the
Structures-theme CTM took its anniversary as an occasion for reflection on the past and analysis of the present, but more particularly for a look ahead into the future of a music culture that is constantly shifting.
STRUCTURES I – Backing-Up Independent Audio-visual Cultures inquired into the current state and future potential of microstructures and networks in independent music and media culture, the true laboratories and matrices of new artistic forms and interdisciplinary, transgressive practices that increase social and cultural latitude for experimentation.
Between theory and practical approach – presented in a mix of lectures, panels, workshops, performances, installations and films – the festival turned into a thematic laboratory and vivid place of experiment, exchange and learning. The Laboratory – within the scientific or academic context, a space for work and shelter for both bold experiments with unclear outcomes and carefully controlled and regulated tests – served as the ideal metaphor for this experiment.
The findings of this laboratory situation were to be seen for 4 additional weeks after the end of the festival as "imprint" and "note" in the form of an exhibition alongside with the installations.
Essential part of the program was the meeting of international festival organizers
I.C.A.S. – International Cities of Advanced Sound and for the first time the
Creative Independents Network Market, that gave professional protagonists of independent music and media cultures the opportunity to present their products, inform about their activities and make new contacts.
