Clouds is a
Finnish electronic music production team made up of Tommi Liikka and Samuli Tanner, who met through mutual friends in 1999. Their first release was a cut on the split 12”
Shallow with Jani Niiranen (Tes La Rok) for Helsinki based Noppa Recordings in October 2007. They’ve since set a cracking pace with follow-ups on 2nd Drop Records, Ramp Recordings and Argon. Their much anticipated Argon release
Under The Dancing Feet/Worms was a 2008 summer phenomenon in the
dubstep scene, garnering support from DJ’s in a variety of genres, including plays on Radio 1 experimental.
The Clouds released
Elders on Leipzig dub label
Jahtari, a track later included on
Dubstep Allstars Vol. 5. They’ve been championed by the likes of Joe Nice, Geiom,
Skream, N-Type, L-Wiz,
Dj/Rupture, Mary Anne Hobbs and Tes La Rok, and spent much of 2008 spreading their sound to the faithful in China, France, UK (DMZ and Subdub among others), Russia, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Sweden.
Liikka is a Helsinki native and
veteran hip-hop promoter and DJ striving to spread the word of the US West Coast. He’s a dubstep & grime producer in his own right under the moniker
Dead-O, and he founded the label/organisation
Anti-Party Music in 2001, organizing regular events under the banner ever since.
Tamuli comes from a small village deep in rural Finland and has a history in
experimental hip-hop production. He co-runs Helsinki’s
Tuulanauhat label and is a member the Dubbing Mixers project at its heart. He also produces stuttering, noise-fuelled hip-hop on audio-visual instruments custom built by video artist Gregoire Rousseau under the moniker Ponytail.
