Radius was launched in summer 2004 by Sergei Malkin. Malikin, from Kemerovo in South-West Siberia, has realized many successful musical projects since the early nineties, including five solo albums under his Fizalis moniker released between 1991 and 2002. Fractal Heads, a formation operated together with Dmitrij Kravtschuk from Novokuznezk, is Malkin's most well known musical manifestation. As DJ Mutant he spins records in clubs all over Russia and releases popular mix-CD's on his dancefloor label Mediatone. He explores the concepts and contrasts of using the latest sound-generating technologies with old and primitive free and self-programmed software, as well as Soviet era computers, producing strange Micro-Electronica and melodies with elements of toy music. Seemingly infantile composition techniques combined with musical helplessness and genial dilettantism stay hidden behind serious titles and highly professional production. Tracks are configured as short pop songs – melodies that are very influenced by children's play patterns. Radius' tonework style is unmistakable, original, beautifully executed, experimental and powerful. Funky, fresh and soulful Siberian sounds.
