The soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop is a Berlin chamber orchestra, which has set itself the task of breaking through traditional musical forms and involving different arts in staged concerts, and theater or music installations. In the meanwhile, it has morphed from classical ensemble to a group of artists whose musical/theatrical productions have gained renown far beyond the borders of Berlin.
The ensemble was founded in 2006 by cellist Michael Rauter and conductor Julian Kuerti. The repertoire ranges from early baroque to contemporary music. They also develop their own musical concepts. So far, the ensemble has worked with Sasha Waltz, Jennifer Walshe, Mouse on Mars, Lee Ranaldo, and André de Ridder. Since 2008, Kaleidoskop has been the house ensemble at RADIALSYSTEM V and a regular guest at major festivals such as the Weimar Art Festival, the Art Festival Herrhausen, operadhoy Madrid and the Salzburg Biennale.
In 2012, Kaleidoskop will be on tour for the first time in the Netherlands (Cross-Linx Festival) and Iceland (Harpa), inter alia with new compositions by Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Bryce Dessner (The National), Richard Reed Perry (Arcade Fire) and with the HARDCORE program, directed by Eleanor Dauchez.
