Sendai is the collaborative project between longtime friends Yves De Mey and Peter Van Hoesen. 
 
Deeply rooted in the Brussels electronic music scene as DJ and producer since 1993, Peter van Hoesen runs the respected, heavy-hitting techno labels Time to Express and Foton, while also releasing on labels such as Ostgut Ton, Exone, and more. With beginnings in theatre, dance, and sound installations, Yves De Mey entered the realm of music production through interests in sound design. His early interests were rooted in breakbeats and UK drum&bass before turning towards techno to release on labels such as Sandwell District, Line, and van Hoesen’s Time to Express, for which he is prepping a 2012 release.
 
Thus far counting only two 12" releases on van Hoesen’s Time To Express label, both of which came out in 2009, Sendai are set to release their first full-length album, Geotope, in early 2012. Combining De Mey's skill in unearthing hidden dynamic sounds from his modular synthesizer system with Van Hoesen's deep, crepuscular digital composition, Sendai's audiovisual live performance for Club Transmediale marks the world premiere of the duo's new live set in support of their forthcoming full-length. 
 
In Sendai, analog circuitry, digital manipulation, and fierce drum programming combine with generative visuals to bury the senses within layers of visceral sonic experience. Sendai shows a clear sensibility for stripping things down to their bare essentials, and an obsessive cable-patched shaping of the raw sound of electricity. Both audio and visual aspects are equally important in a live setup that sees the duo move away from the dancefloor into an altogether more exploratory and uncomfortable warehouse territory of mottled grey concrete fractured at the stress points, hidden rooms, and reverberating ghosts of bass lines past.
