Alain Mongeau founded MUTEK festival in 2000 and has directed the development of the organisation and its related activities ever since. Over the years, MUTEK has become an essential North American reference point for exploring the intersection between electronic music, sound research, and digital creativity. It has also branched out in Latin America, with regular events held in Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
From 1997 to 2001, Alain Mongeau directed the New Media division of the Montral International Festival of New Cinema and New Media (FCMM). Among Mongeau's other significant contributions to the field include his direction of ISEA95 Montreal, the sixth International Symposium of Electronic Arts. Following this mandate, he became the acting President of the Board of Directors of the Inter-Society for Electronic Arts, as well as Director of the organization's head office, which was based in Montreal from 1996 to the end of 2000. His functions within ISEA permitted him to better comprehend the stakes at hand in the globalization of digital creativity and artistic networks.
A Doctor of Communications, Alain Mongeau lectured from 1990 to 1993 on computer-based communications at the University of Quebec in Montreal. During these years, he developed numerous new media projects that were presented and prized in various international festivals..
