O.S.T. is Chris Douglas, a San Francisco native now based in Berlin. Douglas created waves in the early 90s with proto IDM hits that garnered him fans like Autechre, and earned him spots on high profile compilations. Douglas relocated to Berlin in 2003. In 2007, he released the acclaimed SYNKEN DVD project on Shitkatapult after a five year hiatus, and last year released two full length albums: Waetka (iDEAL Recordings) and Ideom under his Dalglish guise for Record Label Records.
 
Douglas (1974) was born and San Francisco Bay Area and was introduced to the all-night-rave party scene as a young teenager. He started to DJ, making tracks and throwing parties at just sixteen, and was responsible with his crew for the first techno/ambient parties in San Francisco. The events featured live sets by artists such as Ritchie Hawtin and µ-Ziq (Mike Paradinas). Douglas moved to Detroit at seventeen only returning to San Francisco years later. In Detroit, Douglas recorded his first EP under the name O.S.T for Detroit-based Switch Records Canada in 1992 the futuristic, proto-IDM Basilar.
 
Douglas later began to remix, and The Space Time Continuum (Jonah Sharp) remix album rEMIT rECAPS (1996) featured an O.S.T. track titled Simm City (O.S.T. Mix). He released other remixes on labels like Plug Research, Diskono, Worm Interface, Emanate, and Astralwerks, participating on comps with artists like Autechre, Carl Craig, Squarepusher and Boards of Canada.
 
Douglas released his O.S.T. album debut, Death Notice, on Californian electronic music label Phthalo in 1998. Three O.S.T. live recordings appeared on the same label later in the year. In 1999, O.S.T. – Fuckin' Twats Missed It was released by Phthalo, an album recorded in 1995 and originally scheduled for release on Reflective Records. Within just over a year Phthalo had released five O.S.T. limited edition CDs. In 2000, Douglas moved to Emanate Records to release Deflect, and his next full-length came in 2002, Does Not Play Well With Others (Polyrhythmic). The same year, O.S.T. appeared as an opening act for Autechre, at their request, during their Confield Tour. Soon after, he was invited by Autechre to perform at their curated All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK, and in the same year Fimt, also originally recorded for Reflective Records in 1995, was picked up by Isolate, a sub-label of Dyslexic Response, and got a full release. Douglas’ Seimlste was released on was released on his own now defunct label, Qlipothic, and was O.S.T.’s last release for several years. Douglas relocated to Berlin in 2004.
 
The 2007 appearance of the experimental music-film, Synken as a DVD on Berlin’s Shitkatapult marked Douglas’ re-activation of the O.S.T. moniker after a five-year hiatus. SYNKEN was a collaboration with Berlin video artist collective Transforma. Douglas’ most recent O.S.T. album - a dark ambient work titled Waetka – was released on Sweden’s iDEAL Recordings in 2008. Chris Douglas has also produced under the aliases Dalglish – his more 'polyrhythmic' alter ego – and Rook Valard.
