Onur Özer has redefined clublife in Istanbul, moulding and polishing the kitch until it gave off minimal gleam. At the same time Istanbul’s prodigal son has been rising meteorically in the clubs of Germany. His dark tracks open up glinting new spaces through every detail; pushing dimensional limits with stripped down efficiency.
He started out in the late 90s introducing minimal and tech house to the clubs of Turkey and soon built up a loyal following for his funky and fresh sets. Since bringing his Istanbulised mnml to Germany in 2002, Özer has played clubs across Europe; most notoriously at the recent Vakant parties at Watergate
In 2004 he became the resident for the ‘Sweet Sense’ series at the Indigo club in Istanbul, parties renowned for bringing big names like Carl Craig and Dominique Eulburg, Gabriel Ananda, Steve Bug and Guido Schneider to Turkey.
His first release came in August 2005 on Freude Am Tanzen, home of the influential Wighnomy releases and future label mate and tag team partner Mathias Kaden; and it was followed up lightening fast with his first production for Vakant in September, the deep and heavy
Envy EP.
A second EP and two remixes later (Barem –
Compo Madness, Foundsound) + (Mathias Kaden’s
Pentaton), Özer teamed up with Mathias Kaden for Vakant’s first mix CD,
Momentum, released at the end of 2006.
