Reynold is the solo project of Berlin-based French producer Sam Rouanet, Trenton Records label boss and one half of Duplex 100 (with Phil Stumph). Working as Reynold since 2003, Rouanet has seen releases on Stewart Walker’s Persona Records, Dumb-Unit and Curle Recordings among others. In 2006 he released his solo album on Persona,
My Favourite Film and last year saw a collaborative release with 3 Channels,
Macho Lato.
Sam Rouanet started playing violin and classical guitar at a conservatory at the age of 6. He later moved to Chicago and got inspiration from the house and 'post rock' scenes with Matt Lux (the bass player from Isotope 217°), they formed a funk band called A.U.F.M and started playing in the Chicago local scene. Rouanet then spent time in London collaborating with Kinobee and Scanone and developing his solo production work.
Back in France in 1997, Reuanet teamed up with DJ Phil Stumpf to form a DJ team, and in 1999 became the production duo Duplex 100. duplex 100 releases on the following labels: Initial Cuts, Treibstoff, Morris Audio, 3rd floor, Onitor, and Popular Tools. Strumpf and Rouant have long been resident DJs at the Nuoveau Casino in Paris, and have also hosted a very successful night called Minimal Dancin’ there since 2001.
The duo has an electronic jazz side project called Canvas together with the double bass player James Sindatry. Their debut album
buona modulazione was released on Nacopajaz in 2004.
Rouanet has been producing solo under the moniker Reynold since 2003, when he co-founded Trenton with Chris Clause aka Aspro. The pair has produced several EPs together that appeared on the labels Trenton, Micro.fan and Lebensfreude Records. Rouanet has also released music under the alias Johnny Wagner. One track, 'Intercity' (Trenton, 2006), was included on a Get Physical compilation.
