Born 1961 in Hannover, studied Sociology, Journalism, Information Science and Psychology at the FU Berlin. Co-founder of mikro (Association for the Care and Maintenance of Media Cultures), organizer of the conference series "Wizards of Oz", co-founder of the initiative privatkopie.net, a lobby group for freedom of information in the digital age. Grassmusck is the head of iRights, an internet portal that addresses copyright issues in the digital realm, and author of the book Freie Software – zwischen Privat- und Gemeineigentum (Free Software – between private and common property). Currently he is a replacement professor for media art at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. He lives in Berlin.
