Felix Martin and Al Doyle both have day jobs with British techno-pop band Hot Chip. But they have been known to work together on various side projects, mostly remixes, under the monikers Lanark and Silent Jeffs. In Hot Chip, Martin is on MPC and drum machine, while Doyle does guitar, keyboard, percussion and backing vocals. Doyle also does percussion for LCD Soundsystem.
Martin and Doyle started out as occasional collaborators of Hot Chip founders Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, and were engaged in their own musical projects until becoming full time members of the band in 2003, just as Hot Chip signed with Moshi Moshi Records to release their debut album,
Coming on Strong.
Martin and Doyle, who reportedly listen to a lot of "German minimal, pounding techno", bring a strong dance influence to the Hot Chip sound. In 2005, the pair remixed
Jamie Lidell’s Multiply for Warp records; in 2008, they gave the Lamark treatment to Milosh’s
Remember the Good Things.
