Mount Sims (Matthew Sims) is a Berlin-based US DJ/producer/musician with three full-length albums to date, the first two on DJ Hell’s International DeeJay Gigolo Records. Sims recently collaborated with The Knife and Planning to Rock to create music for an opera based on The Origin of Species. Mt. Sims, another incarnation of Mount Sims, is a three-piece band. As a DJ, Simms weaves techno into dark soundscapes. 
 
Sims started performing with three dancers in the year 2000 at a seedy club in Los Angeles called the Parlour, later known as the post-punk and darkwave centre of LA. DJ Hell reputedly saw an early performance, and Sims was signed to International Deejay Gigolo Records not long after. Sims’ first album, the synth-poppy Ultra Sex, was released in Germany in 2002, saw a US release on Emperor Norton records (US), was supported through a North American tour with Ladytron and was picked up by Urban (Universal) and re-released a year later. 
 
In 2004, the follow up LP Wild Light was released, a dark record that included collaborations with artists David J. of Bauhaus, Roger Manning Jr. (Beck), Echo Angelica Danon (So Does the Fire/ E.V.R.) and visual artist Elad Lassery. Mount Sims became Mt Sims and toured extensively through Europe as a three-piece band (as opposed to a performance art piece as was the case with Ultrasex). After the tour, Sims dissolved the band and relocated from LA to Berlin.
 
Mt Sims the band was reformed after the move with Berlin-based musicians, Randy Twigg on bass, Andre Lange on drums, and Thomas Stern of Crime and The City Solution behind the sound and production. This led to the release of A Grave EP on New York post-punk/dark wave imprint Hungry Eye, and a third full length, Happily Ever After. The album was a further departure from pure electronic dance music than any other Mount Sims album, featuring guest musicians Jessie Evans (Vanishing, Autonervous, Subtonix) Toby Damit (Swans, Iggy Pop), Bryan Black (Motor), Jackson (Jackson and his Computer band).
 
Sims recently spent six months in the studio with Olof and Karin Dreijer (The Knife) collaborating on music and libretto for their upcoming opera based upon Darwin's book The Origin of Species, which is a partnership between The Knife and the Denmark-based performance theatre group Hotel Proforma.
