Without knowing what they mean, the sound of Tigrics track titles alone have a clipped, jagged and exotic appeal that perfectly represents his clipped, textured and witty music. The titles are from the most recent Tigrics Ep mint egy befejezőnő (2005) on London rocktronica label Highpoint Lowlife.
Tigrics is Robert Bereznyei (1975) form Tata, near Budapest. He has been making music since the mid-90s, starting out in the band Rianas, and solo since their unfortunate demise after an acclaimed appearance at the first X-Peripheria festival (Budapest) in 2000.
2002 was a busy year for Bereznyei, with three separate releases. The first, Chromalion, was on Ultrahang, the electronic centre of eastern experimental music, as the first in a limited series of CDs profiling young electronic artists from Hungary. The next was a discreet album on the small Budapest label Diaspora titled Évveszteseknek. An edition of just 30 sandpaper-wrapped CDrs was produced, ensuring that, as his press file states, only the luckiest Tigrics fans were able secure a copy.
After the label boss saw his show at an illegal party in Austria, Bereznyei was invited to produce an album for Germany’s Keplar label, Compact Disco, which also came out in 2002.
Tigrics has since performed at festivals and clubs across Europe, including Ultrahang (2003), and club transmediale (2004), alongside acts such as Kid606, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Leafcutter John, Ceephax Acid Crew, Frog Pocket, Shitmat and many more. He has released two EPs on Highpoint Lowlife with an album planned for the spring.
