Norman Fairbanks is an audio concept art project officially started in 2003 with the mission to freely alienate, process and melt artefacts from the vast panopticon of American mass media with found noise, selected field recordings and specifically generated electro-acoustic elements to investigate new tonalities in sound and to create a context-free, unbiased, neo-expressionist audio witness and reflection of contemporary American culture.
Audio conceptualist Norman Fairbanks is a sound nerd to the core, interested in all sorts of electroacoustic noise, no matter if generated by typical instruments or rather unconventional machines. After spending years with classical music and playing piano, studying computer science and working with a consumer electronics giant to explore the field of interactive music, he became interested in metaphoric audio state descriptions of America as main object of his work.
