2562 – not just a postcode from the Hague, Netherlands, but the best known moniker of Dutch producer Dave Huismans, signalling a crossover mix of Bristol, Croydon, Detroit and Berlin. In 2007/08 Huismans established himself in the dubstep and techno worlds performing and producing under two monikers, 2562 and A Made Up Sound, with a string of releases on Tectonic, 3024, SubSolo and Philpot.
Huismans' deadly sound combines post garage 2-step, spacey dub and skittery snares and sub-bass of broken-beat, a hybrid born partly from his early broken-beat productions as Dogdaze – a now retired project. Huismans spent the early 00s experimenting with tracks that eventually saw release on Utrecht’s Flyin’ High, and released a Dogdaze album independently in 2006.
In the same year, Huismans sent a demo to Bristol-based dubstep maven Pinch, which was released as two singles,
Channel Two / Circulate and Kameleon / Channel One, both now considered pivotal markers in the unfolding fabric of dubstep-techno.
Aerial, Huismans' full-length debut, was released by Tectonic in 2008 and ended up at the top of more than its fair share of year-end lists. The follow-up,
Unbalance, came out in late 2009.
Huismans techno side, given full reign under the A Made up Sound moniker, has seen releases on Philpot, and on Shed's Subsolo label. Huismans morphed the A Made Up Sound name into an imprint, AMS, in 2008 to independently release A Made Up Sound’s debut long player
Shortcuts, and a new single
Rework / Closer in 2009.
His latest album
Fever (inspired by his debut live set at TodaysArt 2010) was released on his own imprint When In Doubt in 2011.
