Berlin based Daniel Haaksman is the brain behind Man Recordings and a DJ / producer / journalist in demand. Spinning a club ready mix of baile funk, rap, house, electro,baltimore club, kuduro, dancehall or whatever get the people moving, he knows no rules except for one: A DJ has to rock the party. Daniel started his love affair with Brazilian bass music in 2004, releasing the genre defining compilations
Rio Baile Funk Favela Booty Beats and
More Favela Booty Beats (Essay 2004 + 2006). After running Essay Recordings from 1997 to 2004 he started his own imprint Man Recordings in 2005. On Man Recordings, Daniel released more than thirty releases all related to baile funk. Man Recordings broke artists such as Brazilian MC Edu K (
Popozuda Rock n´Roll/Gatas Gatas Gatas), Deize Tigrona (
Bandida, Sex-O-Matic) and Rio based MC Gringo (
Alemão).
With Baile Funk Masters he established an international platform for Rio DJs such as DJ Sandrinho, Sany Pitbull, DJ Edgar or DJ Amazing Clay. Extending further the sonic realms of baile funk he started
Funk Mundial in which he comissioned productions by Crookers, Count+Sinden,
Jesse Rose, Seiji, Stereotyp,
Oliver $, Makossa Megablast amongst others. Current heavyweights like Diplo (
Popozuda Rock n´Roll) or Bonde Do Role (
Hot Mama, Sex-O-Matic) released some of their first remixes on Man Recordings.
In April 2008, Daniel released the
Rio Baile Funk Breaks album, the worlds first ever turntablist album dedicated to baile funk, together with DJ Sandrinho and DJ Beware. In 2008 Daniel officially remixed Waldemar Bastos, Stefano Miele and Madera Limpia as a solo remixer. In August 2008 he released his debut EP
Whos Afraid Of Rio?, which presented the colorful musical spectrum of his DJ sets. His debut is followed by the remix EP
Who´s Afraid Of Remix? which included reworks by Riva Starr, Scottie B,
Ku Bo and DJ Beware.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Bossa Nova in 2008, Daniel has recently comissioned
Bossa Do Morro, a remix compilation in which baile funk DJs and producers from Rio rework classic Bossa Nova songs. The release on Universal Jazz Germany is scheduled for an October 2008 release. Besides partyrocking, labelrunning and remixing, Daniel has worked as journalistic contributor for various German magazines and newspapers such as "Tagesspiegel" and "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" amongst others.
